finally friday

This has been a whirlwind, busy week that felt like it crawled on, but now, it's finally Friday. This weekend is a girls trip. My mom and sister are in the air now on their way to New York. I am making this short because I have to jet to work, but pray we find bridesmaid dresses this weekend!

I'll update you in a couple days after we survive this shop-till-ya-drop weekend. Cheers!

cerulean to the extreme

Just because I want to wear cerulean during the spring doesn't mean I want to look cerulean right now! I have a thermal finder feature on my computer's camera, and well, as you all know, blue is cold, red is hot. I'm sitting under my lamp. Besides that, I am frigid! And many of my readers have been to my parents house and know that cold is an understatement. It's an old house, so no matter what time of year it is, you're going to be cold. Oh, and the fact that my dad likes to freeze.
That being said, you would think I would be used to this. No. This is not the case. After a gorgeous couple of days last week with temperatures reaching 60, my building decided to turn the heat off. Great! No big deal. In fact, I even turned my AC on (I pay for AC 12 months out of the year, no matter if it is on or off, so baby, it was cranked to 72 all weekend). Now I am regretting that I basked in my cool apartment all weekend and now it's biting me in the ass.
I swear it is warmer outside than it is in my apartment. I'm sorry I complain about the stark difference between freezing and sweating in my apartment so frequently, but honestly there is very little happy medium.
I have been able to survive my apartment, no big deal, because I know it will get better and honestly, I'd rather be cold than hot, but now there is a bigger issue at hand. My mom and sister are coming into town this weekend and staying with me. I hope they pack a sweatshirt or two because I'll be stealing a couple of the blankets on my bed to use on my air mattress.

Here is my proposed solution:

1. Buy a couple extra blankets
Downside: t I don't have room to store extra blankets, but if it will keep my sister from complaining for the weekend, I'll MAKE ROOM.

2. Buy a portable heater
Downside: $$$ A. I don't have a place to keep the heater when it is not in use. B. I feel like it could be a waste of money. C. With my luck, if I go out and buy a portable heater, the temperature outside will immediately rise and my purchase will become unnecessary.

Next post will include no complaining. Promise.

i like cerulean

Blue might be the feeling spread across New York this winter, but moods will certainly rise when shades of cerulean hit the streets. My closet doesn't have many shades of blue as I've always drifted away from the color, but these vibrant pieces below have easily caught my eye.

Doesn't this spring coat just shout May flowers? One more thing to love about New York -- we get a great taste of four seasons, including a semi chilly spring, which insists on spring coats.

save or splurge?

If I open up any of my 1,000+ magazines I will find something gorgeous, a must have for my apartment/wardrobe/shoe collection but most of the time everything is out of my price range. I blame this on my mother. No matter what I find, in any store, from Old Navy to Bergdorf's, I immediately go to the most expensive thing... without looking at the price tag.

Now that I have this chair {which I'm totally obsessed with} I feel the need for an ottoman. I know your thinking "how on earth can you fit more furniture in that apartment" but honestly, it's not crowded. It's comfortable and warm.

I've been eyeing this pouf/ottoman at Johnathan Adler. I prefer it in mustard or turquoise but I'm going to show it to you in silver. Johnathan Adler's pouf, $275. Nate Berkus for HSN, $99.95

Right now the Nate Berkus pouf doesn't come in a color that would coordinate with my apartment, but until then I'll be saving my pennies for the mustard JA one. The worst part is, I have to walk by the Johnathan Adler store every day and there are TWO in the window display.

magazines make my life go round

As you know, Domino magazine was my favorite, most beloved collection of glossy pages. I even brought several issues to New York with me. I flip through every once in a while for hone design inspiration. Well, people are finally starting to do something about it. Esquire has launched Esquire Home and Lucky's editor, Brandon Holley told the New York Times that she plans to launch another spinoff, Lucky Home. If and when it launches, which is predicted to be in 2012, I hope many DIY projects and "Lucky Breaks" are included and of course, geared towards home design and trends.

I also would love to see a highlight of how a regular 20 or 30-something year old lives around the country, and or world. For example, I live in New York and I have 180 square feet and a friend of mine lives with three other gals in Kansas City. They have more space and collective styles. I think the contrast of how people with style really live, as opposed to a perfectly pristine picture of a staged house.

What would you want to see in the future Lucky Home?

i want holes in my shoes

Growing up and playing lots of tennis I recall having a couple holes here or there in my shoes, which finally indicated that I had to get new shoes. Let's take a 180 - I want new shoes complete with holes. Particularly the Banana boots to wear in spring with fun floral dresses and bold color skirts. I can almost hear the birds. Spring will be here soon enough, but until then I'll continue wearing sandals in my apartment in anticipation.

just another wednesday

Oh, ya know, after work drinks in Soho and the new online magazine, Matchbook's launch party at Coach. OK so maybe it wasn't such a typical Wednesday evening for me but I'll take it any time.

Chardonnay and Champagne were flowing as blogosphere celebs filled the two story boutique. The outfits were some to be reckoned with. From the Spring 2011 runway of Prada to turbins and plenty of fur, fashion statements were made. Katie Armour, the neo-traditionalist and co-founder/editor of Matchbook looked adorable in a sweet and sassy black dress.

Casey and I posed for a quick shot downstairs

I tried to capture a picture of my outfit

Thanks Casey for inviting me as your plus one! I had a great time. It was an atypical Wine Wednesday, but a fantastic one nonetheless.

it's finally here

Finally, finally, finally! I finally have a chair! After looking for the perfect piece, I stumbled upon a rounded swivel club chair at a local furniture outlet. The fabric was a grungy green velvet, and that is putting it nicely. I inquired about other fabric choices and within the hour I had ordered a chair. They told me it would be in the warehouse and ready to deliver on February 28, and usually furniture stores are way off on the delivery expectancy... as in, they tell you one day and you might get it three months later. But to my complete and total surprise the company called me on Friday and said my chair was ready for delivery. On top of that, I chose the deliver slot between 11:00a.m. and 3:00p.m., but they called at 10:00a.m. this morning and said they would be here in 10 minutes! Even with the nasty weather outside! I couldn't be happier. I don't think I'll be leaving this chair for a very long time. Ah, the happiness of sitting in my apartment, not on the floor or the bed.

Take a look at the finished product.
