magazines and paint

So as I am rounding up my first full year (emphasis on full) in New York I have noticed that I have "collected" quite a few possessions. As many of you know, I am a "tosser." If I haven't worn it in two years, it's more than likely going to be donated, unless I have some kind of attachment to it. I am not sure where I got this gene of cleaning and tossing, but I know it is NOT from my family. My grandmother (Patpat) hasn't thrown anything out in decades, which has actually made for great attic finds and fabulous vintage finds. Whereas Patpat has oh, let's say 5 or 6 times the amount of space I do, she has more room to "collect." Why am I rambling about this? Because I have been going through a few hundred magazines and trying to decide whether to keep or toss. From several of the 2009 issues I have torn out inspiration pages and layouts that I like, but as for the 2010 issues... it's not working out so well.

Again, if you know me, you know I like change. I have rearranged this apartment so much that it is useless to continue updating the pictures on my blog. Yesterday I went ahead and moved a bookcase to the opposite side of the main room to define the space that I hope will soon be filled by a comfy chair. While I sift through many, many magazines each evening I also stare at these white-ish walls. Me and white walls? Feel free to laugh now. From having "fire-engine" red walls AND ceiling in my bedroom in Arkansas, a year with these white walls is now really bothering me. I can't decide if I want to do two large, bold vertical stripes. One idea is a three foot wide and a two foot wide stripe of orange paint from floor to ceiling. I'm actually leaning this way right now. You may not be on my wavelength with this description, but I have good taste. I mean, have you met my mother?

Another idea I have is to gather inspiration from this chair and rug from CB2. Maybe I should suggest to my parents that they cancel their plane tickets for their August business trip and instead road trip to New York with the upholstered orange chair that we already have (and don't currently use). Yeah! I doubt it will fly, but maybe this orange chair will be a nice reminder.
Rug = perfectly matches my color scheme and would look FABULOUS in my apartment. Agree? Just agree and then I'll have you over for a glass of wine and we can fight over who sits in the pretty orange chair. Sound good? It does to me. One can only dream!

writopia

While I have had plenty of work to occupy my time I have also had some time to play. I went to Long Beach with a few friends for the fourth and then went down to the Hudson River to watch fireworks. The weekend was great, but it is back to work this week. I have been freelancing for a not-for-profit on the Upper West Side, Writopia. Last week I finished up several elements for a window display at Barnes & Noble in the West Village. Check out Writopia Lab's web site for more info or check back soon.
